Actiontec GT-701 Setup

Network Setup

First your computer will need to be setup properly for networking.

Windows 9x - Windows ME

  1. Go to Start - Settings - Control Panels
  2. Open Network
  3. Click on TCP/IP for your network card and click properties
  4. Under the IP Configuration click on "Obtain an IP Address Automatically"
  5. Click OK

Windows 2000/Windows XP

  1. Go to Start - Settings - Control Panels
  2. Open Network and Dial up Connections or Network Connections
  3. Right click on your Local Area Connection and go to properties
  4. Click on Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) and go to properties
  5. Click on "Obtain an IP Address Automatically"
  6. Click OK

Mac OS 9

  1. Go to Apple Menu - Control Panels - TCP/IP
  2. Click Connect via: Built-in Ethernet
  3. Click Configure: Using DHCP Server
  4. Name server addr: 204.246.77.77
  5. Search domains: scc.net
  6. Close the window and save the changes.

Mac OS X

  1. Go to Apple Menu - System Preferences - Network
  2. Click Show: Built-in-Ethernet
  3. Choose the TCP/IP tab
  4. Configure: Using DHCP
  5. Domain Name Servers: 204.246.77.77
  6. Search Domains: scc.net
  7. Close the window and save the changes.

Actiontec configuration

  1. Open a webbrowser and go to address 192.168.0.1
  2. Click "Non-Windows Setup"
  3. ISP Protocol: RFC1483 - Routed
  4. IP Configuration: Static
  5. IP Address: (IP Address from your Sound Internet DSL setup sheet)
  6. Subnet: (Subnet Mask from your Sound Internet DSL setup sheet)
  7. Gateway: (Gateway Address from your Sound Internet DSL setup sheet)

    1. DNS Configuration: Static
    2. Primary DNS: 204.246.77.77
    3. Secondary DNS: 204.246.88.88
    4. Click Save and Restart

    Enabling Wireless Access

    1. Open a webbrowser and go to address 192.168.0.1
    2. Click "Advanced Setup"
    3. Click "Wireless Settings" on the left hand menu
    4. Click "Wireless" On

    Note: It is recommended that you turn on Security. If you enable it only turn on WEP .

    Enabling Wireless Security

    1. Under the security tab choose WEP
      Note: Do not choose WEP+802.1x or WPA
    2. Click Next
    3. Select Key 1 and choose 128 bits
    4. Now you will have to put in a hex key (Hex is 0-9 and A-F) 13 digits long.
    5. An example of a 128-bit WEP key is 3D-44-FE-6C-A1-EF-2E-D3-C4-21-74-5D-B1
