Our judge for the Carriage Division is William Lower, a nationally known driver, judge, trainer and coach. With his partner, Elizabeth Lower, he runs the Millington Driving Center in Free Union, Virginia.
Mr. Lower has agreed to provide personal coaching to a small number of drivers in a clinic immediately following the completion of carriage competition at the North Star Morgan Americana.
Sixteen individual coaching sessions will be available on Sunday, July 6th, 1997, between 8:00 am and 6:00 pm. The cost is $50 for an individual lesson (approximately one-half hour). Clinic participants will provide their own horse; singles, pairs, tandem or four-in-hand turnouts are Carriage Driving Clinic. Mr. Lower and the driver will be wired for sound so that everyone in the audience will be able to follow the lesson.
Thanks to a grant from the Minnesota Horse Council Direct Funding Program (http://www.horses-mn.org/dfund-a.htm), we are able to allow anyone to attend the sessions as an auditor at no charge.
One place in the clinic will be reserved for each horse and driver combination entered in the North Star Morgan Americana whose application is received and paid for by the closing date for entries (substitution of horses and drivers is permitted). Any remaining places will be assigned to other applicants in the order received. No driver will be allowed to register for multiple lessons until and unless all applicants have been scheduled for a lesson.
The clinic will be held outdoors in the West Ring, used for driven dressage, west of the judging arena at the Minnesota State Fairgrounds. Stabling is available on the grounds for an additional fee of $75. Trailer parking is available at no charge near the West Ring for those who would rather come in and out on the day of the clinic. All horses remaining on the grounds overnight must be stabled.
Participants are strongly encouraged to wear suitable safety equipment, including an approved helmet.
North Star entrants should include the driving clinic registration
form from the next page and the fee with their show entry. Others
